J. Neuhauser et al., THE COMPATIBILITY OF HIGH CONFINEMENT TIMES AND COMPLETE DIVERTOR DETACHMENT IN ASDEX-UPGRADE, Plasma physics and controlled fusion, 37, 1995, pp. 37-51
The completely detached high confinement (CDH) regime established rece
ntly in high power ASDEX-Upgrade single null divertor discharges is de
scribed. The standard CDH mode scenario with feedback controlled exter
nal deuterium and neon puffing is analysed in detail with respect to i
ts divertor detachment and confinement properties. Impurity transport
and pumping effects and the density operation window of the CDH mode a
re outlined. First results with other impurity radiators (N, Ar) are g
iven. Finally the CDH mode operation space is discussed in terms of ma
in chamber and scrape-off layer plus divertor radiation and possible c
onsequences for future fusion experiments are outlined.
