Abstract
The injection of pellets into JET sometimes leaves a resonant localise d structure commonly known as a snake. Snakes constitute a remarkable phenomenon, having both an intrinsic interest and a relevance to under standing transport. How are snakes formed? What maintains the magnetic island created by the snake? How does the confined density persist? A nd finally, why don't such structures arise spontaneously?
