Abstract
Resistive Plate Chambers operating at low gas amplification have been tested in the RD5 experiment at CERN on a high intensity pion beam tog ether with a 14 mCi (CO)-C-60 source to give an uniform photon backgro und, simulating conditions close to those expected for an LHC muon det ector.
