Abstract
Ethylaryl- and diethylaryl(benzotriazol-1-yl)methanes, obtained by mon o- or dialkylation of substituted (benzotriazol-1-ylmethyl)benzenes, r eact with sodium alkoxides, phenol and thiophenol to yield the corresp onding alpha-di- and alpha-trisubstituted ethers and sulfides. With am ines, instead of nucleophile displacement, products arising from reduc tion or elimination are formed.
