Dp. Higgins et al., A HIGH-EFFICIENCY NITROGEN ATOM SOURCE FOR ACCELERATOR TARGET STUDIES, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section B, Beam interactions with materials and atoms, 103(4), 1995, pp. 508-510
A new compact source of nitrogen atoms has been developed. The applica
tion of an axial magnetic field provided by permanent magnets and up t
o 200 W of 2.45 GHz microwave power has enabled a high degree of disso
ciation to be achieved. Dissociation fractions ranging from 0.6 to 0.1
2 have been obtained with atom beam densities from 2 x 10(12) to 10 X
10(12) cm(-3) respectively.
