Abstract
We treat chi((2)) optical resonators, such as prism or grating coupler s, illuminated not only by the field al the fundamental frequency but also by the one at the second harmonic. We show that optical bistabili ty may exist even when phase matching is fulfilled. This kind of optic al bistability involves a new nonlinear resonance. (C) 1995 Optical So ciety of America
