Y. Barak et al., CITATION PATTERNS IN THE INTERNATIONAL-JOURNAL-OF-GERIATRIC-PSYCHIATRY - CULTURAL ETHNOCENTRISM REVISITED, International journal of geriatric psychiatry, 10(12), 1995, pp. 1015-1018
The country/region of origin of all original papers appearing in the I
nternational Journal of Psychiatry (IJGP) during the first 9 years of
its publication was recorded. A more detailed analysis of citation pat
terns was carried out on the 105 original articles published during 19
92. The results indicated that 50-60% of the articles emanated from th
e United Kingdom but that in general authors cited a broad range of sp
ecialities from journals published around the world. North American au
thors tended to cite North American sources more frequently than did t
heir counterparts from other countries. There was evidence that the im
pact of the IJGP is increasing despite its omission from some scientif
ic reference databases.
