Abstract
The existence of adrenomedullin (AM) in the rat hypothalamus was exami ned by immunohistochemistry. AM-immunoreactive neurons were found in t he supraoptic nucleus (SON) and in the magnocellular parts of the para ventricular nucleus (PVN). The co-existence of AM-, oxytocin- and/or v asopressin-immunoreactivity was identified in the same neurons in the hypothalamus. The results suggest that the AM may play a role in neuro transmission or in cardiovascular control with neurohypophyseal hormon es.
