Complexes of Co(ll), Ni(ll) and Cu(ll) with benzothiophene derivatives
have been isolated. The structure of the complexes has been recognize
d on the basis of elemental and thermal analyses, electronic and I.R.
spectral data as well as molar conductance measurements. The complexes
were found to have 1:1 or 1:2 (M:ligand) ratio and the coordination t
akes place through the amino and carbonyl groups. Tetrahedral or squar
e planar stereochemical configuration is suggested for the complexes.
It is identified that the complexes possess enhanced antibacterial and
antifungal activities relative to their parent ligands.
