M. Rhainds et al., EVIDENCE FOR MATE CHOICE BY MALE BAGWORMS, OIKETICUS-KIRBYI (GUILDING) (LEPIDOPTERA, PSYCHIDAE), Canadian Entomologist, 127(6), 1995, pp. 799-803
In field and cage experiments in a Costa Rican oil palm plantation, th
e largest, most fecund female bagworms, Oiketicus kirbyi, had the grea
test mating success. Differential mating success of small and large fe
males may be attributed to mate choice by males or to competition betw
een protogynous females for access to males.
