P. Dutta et al., GLOBAL PROPERTIES OF HIGH LIQUID LOADING TURBULENT CRUDE-OIL PLUS METHANE AIR SPRAY FLAMES, Combustion and flame, 97(3-4), 1994, pp. 251-260
Measurements of atomization quality, flame heights, radiative fraction
s, emission temperatures, and transmittance for Alberta sweet crude oi
l/methane flames established on a novel burner for simulating well-blo
wout fires are reported. The results show the effects of two-phase flo
w on flame heights. The measurements of radiative fractions and the op
tical properties suggest relatively low soot loading. The measured hig
h temperatures suggest almost complete combustion of crude-oil. Howeve
r, larger-scale tests as well as information concerning the physical p
rocesses in the present atomizer and burner are essential for the appl
ication to practical fires and combustion devices.
