Abstract
Antibacterial effect of compounds extracted from Camellia sinensis L. and the methanol extract of Euphorbia hirta L. were studied against dy sentery causing Shigella spp, using the Vero cell line. Cytotoxicity s tudies of the extracts were performed using the cell line and the non- cytotoxic concentration of the extract was tested for antibacterial ac tivity against the cytopathic dose of the pathogen. These extracts wer e found to be non-cytotoxic and effective antibacterial agents.
