J. Sutka et al., DROUGHT TOLERANCE OF DISOMIC CHROMOSOME ADDITIONS OF AGROPYRON ELONGATUM TO TRITICUM-AESTIVUM, Cereal Research Communications, 23(4), 1995, pp. 351-357
Drought is one of the abiotic environmental stress factors that reduce
s wheat yield worldwide. In our experiment, chromosome addition lines
of Agropyron elongatum (Host.) Beauvois to Triticum aestivum L. cv. 'C
hinese Spring' were tested for drought tolerance in growth chambers in
the Martonvasar phytotron by creating three different moisture regime
s: E1. fully irrigated control, E2. mid-season water stress (preanthes
is), E3. terminal water stress during grain filling. The data were ana
lysed for relative water content (RWC), drought susceptibility index (
DSI), multiple selection efficiency (MSE) and general adaptability. Ag
. elongatum chromosome 5E is very important in controlling drought tol
erance and has shown to be promising for the improvement of wheat yiel
d stability under drought-prone conditions.
