An analysis of available data of the growth of ferrous pearlite using
moving boundary diffusivities rather than those for stationary grain b
oundaries is presented. Two ledge growth approaches are tested and com
pared with the classic Zener-Hillert approach. Both approaches based o
n a combined ledge growth and moving boundary interdiffusion mechanism
are in good agreement with the experimental data for binary Fe-C and
substitutionally alloyed Fe-C eutectoids.
