A problem which has been constantly emphasized is the creation of crit
eria adequate to characterize the complexity of ecological analysis. T
he objective of the present paper is to demonstrate the capabilities o
f multiattribute utility theory in difficult-to-formalize problems. Th
e multiattribute utility and the proposed algorithms provide a logical
ly and operationally tested method which includes value in complex eco
logical problems. The results obtained and the constructed utility fun
ctions should be accepted as an iterative stage in real investigations
, rather than as complete research that offer a final decision. The va
lue estimations of the decision maker are the basis for interest in a
given ecological problem. But they are often not explicitly or consist
ently addressed in the real investigations. The proposed methods accou
nt for otherwise uninterpretable information. The constructed value fu
nction can be used for automatic computer control and monitoring of an
aerobic waste water digestion, which could reveal a new potential from
the practical point of view.
