Abstract
The holistic modelling of operating complex systems with bounded dissi pation capacity and high safety level requirements is discussed. Addit ionally, damage measures are introduced which describe fault character istics including damage evolution. Such a model allows, for example, s imulation of the life cycle, and consequently it permits trend predict ions to be made For safety monitoring and for damage evolution. The ho listic methodology is demonstrated on a steel chimney and an offshore platform with simulated measurements.
