Abstract
The formation of polysiloxanes during controlled hydrolysis of tetraet hyl orthosilicate has been studied by size exclusion chromatography. T he reactions were carried out with a relative low quantity of water in ethanol or tetrahydrofuran as solvents and using either closed or ope n systems. It was found that the polymerization proceeds more rapidly in an open container using ethanol as solvent.
