Abstract
A new class of linear codes is constructed by a shortening of the bina ry extended quadratic residue (EQR) codes. It is shown that the error- control rate of each such code is better than the rate of the correspo nding binary EQR codes. An algorithm for finding the generator matrice s of this code is given, as well as a decoding scheme.
