Abstract
Multiple closely related, yet distinct, isoforms ex ist for each of th e cardiac contractile proteins. The isoform composition of the heart c hanges in response to developmental and physiologic cues. This paper r eviews the molecular basis for cardiac contractile protein isoform div ersity and the functional consequences of isoform shifts.
