Ml. Roberts et al., PRELIMINARY COMPARISON OF 2 NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT SCHEDULES TO REDUCE SELF-INJURY, Journal of applied behavior analysis, 28(4), 1995, pp. 579-580
This study compared the effectiveness of differential negative reinfor
cement of other behavior (DNRO) and alternative behavior (DNRA) for re
ducing self-injurious tantrums maintained by escape from demands in a
4-year-old girl with severe retardation. Both DNRA and DNRO reduced se
lf-injury and increased independent performance of two tasks (tooth br
ushing and bathing); however, improvement on both measures was greater
with the DNRA intervention.
