Abstract
This paper examines the copolymerization of alpha-methylstyrene (alpha -MS) and ethyl acrylate(EA) with a complexed initiating system of AlEt 2Cl and benzoyl peroxide(BPO). Effects of monomer ratio, monomer conce ntration, initiator composition and polymerization conditions on conve rsion, molecular weight and copolymer composition were studied. The co polymer was characterized by elemental analysis, IR, H-1-NMR, and C-13 -NMR. Results show that it is an alternating copolymer.
