A form of O. smithi Calman, 1912 and Oxyurostylis lecroyae, new specie
s, are described from the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. The specimens o
f O. smithi described herein and those collected near the type localit
y, Woods Hole, Massachusetts, differ in the development and arrangemen
t of the carapace carinae, and in the shape and relative length of the
female fifth thoracic segment. Oxyurostylis lecroyae is distinguished
from all the other described species of the genus by the presence of
a horizontal carina on the carapace of the adult female.
