Five hundred sixty-five measurements of 99 binary star systems are pre
sented, obtained during 1984-1986 by means of speckle interferometry a
t the 1.8 m Perkins telescope on Anderson Mesa, Arizona. These observa
tions were collected as part of a systematic program in which frequent
speckle observations of nearby binary systems were to be used to atte
mpt the detection of unseen companions through the analysis of residua
l motions in wide, visual binaries. This is the first of several paper
s in which these observations are presented and discussed. (C) 1996 Am
