Abstract
1. Whole-body protein turnover was measured using the [N-15]glycine tr acer technique in 10 postabsorptive healthy volunteers during normal d aily activities and a period of bed rest. 2. Bed rest reduced whole-bo dy protein turnover (25%), synthesis (26%) and breakdown (25%), but sh ort-term urinary nitrogen excretion remained unchanged.
