Pa. Prodohl et al., A PANEL OF MINISATELLITE (VNTR) DNA LOCUS-SPECIFIC PROBES FOR POTENTIAL APPLICATION TO PROBLEMS IN SALMONID AQUACULTURE, Aquaculture, 137(1-4), 1995, pp. 87-97
Eleven minisatellite DNA locus specific probes, isolated from Atlantic
salmon (Salmo salar) and brown trout (Salmo trutta) partial genomic D
NA libraries, were tested for cross-hybridization to 11 other salmonid
species, i.e. sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka); coho salmon (O. ki
sutch), chum salmon (O. keta); pink salmon (O, gorbuscha); chinook sal
mon (O. tshawytscha); rainbow trout (O. mykiss); brook trout (Salvelin
us fontinalis); Arctic charr (S. alpinus); grayling (Thymallus thymall
us); huchen (Hucho hucho); pollan (Coregonus autumnalis). Simple singl
e locus profiles for each of these species were revealed by, from two
to ten SLP. These markers are likely to be of great value in addressin
g several problems in aquaculture of these species.
