Solid-liquid interactions, as adsorption or ion exchange; are present
in different industries, i.e. chemical, metallurgical or nuclear. The
optimization of the processes requires studies of physical and chemica
l fundamentals: equilibrium, kinetics and evaluation of the possibilit
y of damages in the solid during the reaction. In this work, microscop
y is analyzed as a technique able to evaluate some of these aspects. O
ptical microscopy allows determine the kinetic models of ion exchange
reactions, and their parameters. Electronic microscopy seems adequate
to follow the progressive damage of the solid after several uses.
