Abstract
Single crystal of a new type of mutually incommensurate composite crys tal with layered structure, (BiS)(1.16)VS2 has been synthesized by che mical vapor transport method. The X-ray. precession photographs of (Bi S)(1.16)VS2 have revealed the composite diffraction patterns of C-cent ered monoclinic VS2 subsystem with a = 5.670(2) Angstrom b(1) = 3.261( 2) Angstrom, c = 11.354(3) Angstrom, beta = 94.97(3) Angstrom and C-ce ntered monoclinic BiS subsystem with a = 5.670(2) Angstrom, b(2) = 5.6 43(3) Angstrom, c = 11.354(3) Angstrom, beta = 94.97(3)degrees. The la ttice parameters obtained have led to the 2D-commensurate structure of (BiS)(1.16)VS2 along the mutually incommensurate axis. The morphology of single crystal (BiS)(1.16)VS2 has been found to be closely related to the orientation of the row of the superstructure reflections obser ved.
