Abstract
Scopolia carniolica population was analysed on two plots (each of 4 m( 2)). The density of population was 8.25 shoots/1 m(2) on the first plo t, and 17.5 shoots/1 m(2) on the second plot. There were only few gene rative ones. Also small shoots of the 2nd order were developed in some tufts. The age structure of the East Carpathians population of Scopol ia carniolica was analysed. The population consisted predominantly of mature virgin and mature generative shoots. Similarly as on other loca lities young seedlings and juvenile plants were not found. In addition the life cycle of S. carniolica obtained on the experimental plots in the garden in Bratislava and habitat condition in the original locali ty are described. The observed population structure and reduced abilit y of generative reproduction is characteristic for phylogenetically ol d species.
