Abstract
Sleep-spindle- and K-complex-density during stage 2 sleep as well as t heir distribution over three polysomnographic nights were analysed in twenty healthy aged subjects (mean: 82,5 years). Sleep-spindles and K- complexes showed marked interindividual variations. Mean spindle densi ty of 0,32/min reached approximately one fifth and K-complex-density ( mean: 0,76/min.) one third of middle aged subjects. Thus the physiolog ical involution of sleep depending on age could be demonstrated with r espect to spindles and K-complexes.
