Abstract
A concise synthesis of the tricyclic furanochroman unit 2 found in the unusual PAF antagonist phomactin A 1 is described. The synthesis is b ased on elaboration of the novel dihydrofuran enol ether 3 as key inte rmediate via the iodopyran 6 or the dihydrofuran 20. Treatment of 3 wi th dimethyldioxirane in acetone-water then gave the furanochroman 2.
