It is shown that in the approximation of slowly varying magnitudes, Ma
xwell's equations describing the propagation of light in certain elect
ro-optical crystals under the action of external electric fields are e
quivalent to Pauli's equation describing the motion of spin 1/2 in a m
agnetic field. Use of this analogy is discussed.
