M. Sasaki et O. Hirota, 2 EXAMPLES OF MEASUREMENT PROCESSES ILLUSTRATING HELSTROM OPTIMUM DECISION BOUND, Physics letters. A, 210(1-2), 1996, pp. 21-25
Helstrom's decision bound for non-orthogonal quantum states can be rea
lized by simple physical measurements after an adequate unitary transf
ormation applied to the signal states. Two examples are used to demons
trate its structure. One is a two-level atomic system, another is a bi
nary coherent signal system. The unitary transformation required in th
e latter case provides a new problem for quantum optics.
