Abstract
An overview of spinal infections is presented. Vertebral osteomyelitis is reviewed from an historical and anatomic perspective. A classifica tion of spinal infections by anatomic location of their focus is propo sed. The locations of spinal infection are illustrated and related to their causes and treatment.
