A 61-year-old man with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy developed acute pul
monary edema 29 h following cardioversion of chronic atrial fibrillati
on to sinus rhythm. Doppler echocardiographic evaluation of atrial fun
ction showed return of right atrial contraction but absent left atrial
systole. This has not been reported previously in a case of postcardi
oversion pulmonary edema.
