The new cuprates containing CeO2 can be characterized by rows of diffe
rent building blocks u, v, w and W with (Ca, Sr)CuO2, CaTiO3, SrO and
CeO2 structures, respectively, and different orientations of these bui
lding blocks u', u'', etc. Fourteen superconducting compounds containi
ng u or u'' building blocks as e.g. u''v'w3'vu Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 Of (u'vu)
2 YBa2Cu3O7 can be modified by insertion of W' CeO2 units. The compoun
ds containing two donating elements w' or u' and W' exhibit a decrease
d T(c).
