The treatment results of 6 patients with solitary brain metastases fro
m bladder cancer were evaluated. Three underwent surgery plus radiothe
rapy, three whole-brain irradiation alone. Prognostic factors of opera
ted patients were more favourable. Two of them survived for more than
2 years. All other patients had extracranial metastases and survived a
t most 4 months. In 2/3 cases brain metastases showed no regression af
ter irradiation alone (survival: 1.5 months), in the third case a comp
lete remission was observed (survival: 4 months). An effective local c
ontrol gives some selected patients a chance to profit from a favourab
le course of the disease.
