P. Held et al., CT AND MRI OF TUMORS OF THE MOUTH AND THE OROPHARYNX - COMPARISON OF CT AND MRT INCLUDING FAST AND ULTRAFAST MR SEQUENCES, Laryngo-, Rhino-, Otologie, 72(11), 1993, pp. 521-531
A total of 488 patients with neoplasms (in 474 cases with malignant tu
mours) of the oropharynx, floor of the mouth and oral cavity, were exa
mined with MRI and CT. MRI proved superior to CT, on account of its co
ronal and sagittal slice orientation enabling not only a better demons
tration of findings, but also improved tumour detection and staging. T
he diagnostic value of MRI was further enhanced with additional fast a
nd ultrafast MR sequences rather than spin echo sequences alone, as pr
eviously practised.
