Abstract
Data on accident 'precursors' or 'near misses' can help in obtaining a ccurate estimators of accident frequencies when actual accident data i s sparse. A variety of precursor-based estimators have been proposed i n the literature. This paper presents results of a simulation study to assess the statistical performance of several such estimators, to hel p in determining which are the most suitable for use in practice.
