A QUALITY PROFILE OF THE AUSTRALIAN WOOL CLIP

Wool quality attributes were reviewed. These attributes account for th e majority of variation in price of Australian fleece wools. Other woo l quality attributes, notably dark fibre content, are of some importan ce to wool processors, but because of sampling difficulties, are not r outinely assessed on wools prior to sale. Within-lot fibre diameter va riability and component traits of style are also receiving attention i n terms of research into their significance or otherwise in wool proce ssing, and into sampling and measurement techniques.
