Abstract
3-Titana-penta-1,4-diynes, RC=C-[Ti]-C=CR {[Ti] = (eta(5)-C(5)H(4)SiMe (3))(2)Ti; R = singly bonded organic ligand), can be used as organomet allic chelating ligands (organometallic pi-tweezers) for the breakdown of oligomeric or polymeric copper(I) compounds [Cu(I)X](n) (X = singl y bonded inorganic or organic ligand) to mononuclear bis-(eta(2)-alkyn e)Cu(I)X species, {[Ti](C=CR)(2)}Cu(I)X. The synthesis, reaction behav iour, bonding and spectroscopy of {[Ti](C=CR)(2)}Cu(I)X compounds are discussed.
