In electrolytic metal winning processes the fluid flow of electrolyte
plays an important role for an efficient metal deposition on the catho
de. Experimental investigations on the fluid flow are extremely diffic
ult. Due to this, a model for the simulation of the fluid flow in an e
lectrolysis cell is developed. It is done by the technique of Computat
ional Fluid Dynamic based on density variations near the electrode sur
faces. The computations show the disadvantages of the common used prin
ciple of transvers flow and different arrangements for the electrolyte
in- and outlet are suggested for optimizing the electrolyte flow.
