This paper analyses the solvatochromism of C-60 in a wide range of ali
phatic and aromatic solvents (nearly 50), as well as in the gas phase,
on the basis of the spectral shift induced by the environment on thre
e peaks in the UV/vis absorption spectrum of C-60 that are representat
ive of the whole spectrum. Solvents are categorized by their solvent d
ipolarity-polarizability (SPP) values. In order to analyze the potenti
al involvement of C-60 in the formation of charge-transfer or hydrogen
-bonding complexes, we studied its behavior in 11 monosubstituted benz
ene solvents and as many alkanols.
