Abstract
A novel procedure of synthesis of (5Z,8Z,11Z,14Z,17Z)-5,8,11,14,17-eic osapentaenoic (timnodonic) acid and its acetylenic precursor, 5,8,11,1 4,17-eicosapentaynoic acid was developed it uses polyacetylene strateg y and a known,reaction of cross-coupling between propargyl units and o mega-acetylenes in the presence of copper(I) and sodium iodides and in volves the in situ formation of organocopper compounds and propargyl i odides.
