Abstract
Dependence of the longitudinal conductivity on the length of double qu antum wells (DQWs) with different conductivities is studied under the linear response regime. The conditions for the observation of the size effect due to near-edge redistribution of longitudinal current across DQWs is found in the case of nonresonant tunnel coupling. Due to such redistribution, the effective conductivity of DQWs with common contac ts increases under increasing structure length. (C) 1996 American Inst itute of Physics.
