Jl. Devitt et al., PREVALENCE AND PROGNOSTIC-SIGNIFICANCE OF HER2 NEU AND EPIDERMAL GROWTH-FACTOR RECEPTORS IN OVARIAN-CANCER/, Journal of experimental & clinical cancer research, 14(4), 1995, pp. 329-334
We compared retrospectively the prevalence and prognostic significance
of HER2/neu and epidermal growth factor receptor (ECFR) overexpressio
n as detected immunohistochemically in consecutive cases of epithelial
-derived ovarian cancer. HER2/neu was overexpressed in 10% (6/61) of c
ases and EGFR was overexpressed in 50% (25/50). There was no significa
nt association between HER2/neu or EGFR overespression and ovarian can
cer stage, grade, histology or response to chemotherapy. Unlike EGFR,
overexpression of HER2/neu was associated with significantly worse ove
rall survival (p < 0.05), suggesting that HER2/neu may be a better pro
gnostic marker than EGFR to evaluate patients with ovarian cancer.
