Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the performance of the Paediatric Day Case Unit over a period of 4 years, 1989-1993. Method: Day case unit register a nd individual case notes where necessary were scanned for relevant inf ormation. Results: Annual admissions on average were 572, drawn from g eneral and various subspecialities of paediatrics. There were very few instances where a day case had to be transferred to a general ward fo r prolonged observation. Conclusion:. The Day Case Unit is well suited for the paediatric population. It is cost-effective and should be uti lized to the full by more hospitals within our health system.
