In this paper, we report the surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)
observation of quinhydrones (QHQ) formation from the reaction of hydro
quinone (HQ) reducing AgBr sol. The SERS is shown to be that of QHQ ad
sorbed on reduced silver clusters of AgBr sol through the study of the
reaction of the intermediate benzoquinone (BQ) with HQ in silver sol
and through the experiments of temperature-dependent UV-absorption spe
ctra and the SERS of this process. Experiments also show that QHQ mole
cules adsorb on silver clusters through their BQ rings, combining with
the Agi ions of the silver clusters.
