Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) measurements on manganese-ionomers of su
lfonated butyl rubber (Mn-SIIR) show that polar cosolvents such as alc
ohols could solvate the ionic groups and then destroy ionic aggregatio
n, The solvation would be weakened and the ionic aggregation increased
as temperature increased, These are in agreement with the results fro
m viscosity measurements of ionomer in mixed solvents, But the content
of ionic groups in solution had no significant effect on the degree o
f ionic aggregation.
