The geoid height in continental domains can be determined by comparing
levelling data with GPS positioning. We apply this method along a N-S
transect in the Alpes-Maritimes, between the Ligurian basin and the M
ercantour range. A modelling of the geoid profile indicates a very thi
n continental crust under the Ligurian sea margin and a 35 km deep cru
stal root under the southern Alps, shifted to the N-E relative to the
Mercantour range.
