P. Vignaud et al., DISCOVERY OF A SKULL OF TELEOSAURIDAE IN THE EUDOXUS ZONE (UPPER KIMMERIDGIAN) FROM QUERCY (FRANCE), Comptes rendus de l'Academie des sciences. Serie 2, Mecanique, physique, chimie, sciences de l'univers, sciences de la terre, 317(11), 1993, pp. 1509-1514
The Quercy area (France), situated on the western border of the Massif
Central, has recently yielded a beautiful skull of a narrow-skulled t
eleosaurid (Crocodylia, Thalattosuchia) dated to the Upper Kimmeridgia
n. This dating is interesting because it is the top of the known strat
igraphic distribution of the teleosaurids. The study allows it to be c
ompared with species types described from Later Jurassic. The number o
f teeth is the only different character observed within these specimen
s. This study allows examination of the specific value of some charact
ers and discussion on the systematics of the last narrow-skulled stene
osaurs.
